How to remove or update a judgment on your credit report
A paid court judgment should show as satisfied. How to get it updated on Equifax and TransUnion in Canada, even if the creditor's lawyer won't help.
Paid judgments must be updated
Once a judgment is paid, it should be reported as paid or satisfied. It may still stay for the reporting period, but showing it as unpaid is inaccurate.
Proof you need
Proof of full payment, and ideally a satisfaction or release of judgment filed with the court. If the creditor or its lawyer refuses to sign one, many courts have a process to request it — ask the court office.
Dispute with the bureaus
Send the bureaus your payment proof and court documents and ask them to update the status. Bureaus get judgment data from court records, so a court filing showing satisfaction is the strongest evidence.
When to get help
If the creditor stalls or the bureau won't update, we can handle the dispute and escalation. Start with a consultation.
