TransUnion won't remove a closed account
When a closed account can stay on your TransUnion Canada report, and when you can force it off.
Closed doesn't mean deleted
A closed account in good standing can stay on your report for years and usually helps your history. A closed account with negative history is normally reported for about 6 years from the last activity.
When it should come off
It should be removed if it's older than the reporting period, isn't yours, or shows wrong information — for example, a balance on an account you paid off, or late payments that didn't happen.
If TransUnion says it's 'verified'
Bureaus often just ask the lender to confirm its own data. You can ask how it was verified and who was contacted, send your proof directly to the lender, and escalate to the provincial regulator or the Privacy Commissioner if the error stays.
