Get your free Equifax and TransUnion credit reports in Canada

Obtain both Canadian credit reports without confusing a free disclosure with a paid subscription, then compare the entries before starting a dispute.

You can access both reports for free

FCAC explains that both Equifax and TransUnion provide free online credit reports, which can be downloaded or printed. TransUnion calls its report a Consumer Disclosure. Checking your own report does not affect your credit rating.

Use the official access instructions

Follow FCAC’s links to each bureau rather than a sponsored offer promising fast deletion. A paid monitoring subscription is different from access to your free report. Review what you are agreeing to before entering payment details.

If online identity verification does not work, FCAC also describes mail and other access options. Check the bureau’s current requirements rather than repeatedly submitting guesses about your identity.

Save both reports and their dates

Equifax and TransUnion are separate. A lender may report differently or at different times, so compare actual accounts rather than assuming a difference in scores proves an error. Keep a dated copy of each report before requesting corrections.

What to check first

Review your name and address, unknown accounts, balances, payment history and dates. Mark each potential error and gather the record that supports the accurate information. A closed account or paid collection is not automatically eligible for deletion.

Use a focused dispute if you find an error

Identify the particular entry, explain the inaccurate field and request an investigation through the affected bureau’s official channel. Contact the reporting company as appropriate. Keep your submission reference and compare the result with a fresh report.
