Common causes
Payments applied to the wrong account, autopay set-up problems, lender system errors, or a payment deferral the lender didn't report correctly.
Gather proof
Bank statements showing the payment date, the lender's statements, and any letters agreeing to a deferral or payment plan.
Dispute with both sides
Write to the lender asking it to correct what it reports to the bureaus, and dispute with each bureau at the same time. Ask for written confirmation of the correction.
