How long do things stay on my credit report in Canada?

Usual reporting periods for collections, late payments, judgments, bankruptcies and consumer proposals in Canada.

Usual periods

Collections, late payments and written-off accounts: about 6 years from the last activity.

Judgments: about 6 years from the judgment date in most provinces.

First bankruptcy: about 6 years after discharge. Second or later bankruptcy: about 14 years.

Consumer proposal: about 3 years after you finish it.

Hard credit checks: about 3 years.

Each bureau and province has its own details. If something stays past these periods, you can ask for it to be removed.
